College Educational Scholarship Program
Introduction
At its April 2004 board meeting, the Jackson Ladies Tennis Association’s Board of Directors approved the establishment of a college educational scholarship for one entering female freshman at a two-year or four-year community college, college, or university. In the spring of each year, a committee comprised of board members appointed by the president will choose a recipient from among the qualified applicants. The committee will be named the JLTA College Scholarship Selection Committee. Members will serve a one year term. The president will designate a chairperson for the committee. The scholarship will be awarded annually and will be renewable for four years at an amount of $2,000 per year for a total scholarship amount of $8,000.
Qualifications
- Applicant must be a resident of Hinds, Rankin, or Madison County.
- Applicant must be, or have been, a member of the varsity tennis team at a high school in Hinds, Rankin, or Madison County. Applicant is not required to play college-level tennis.
- Applicant must be entering into the first year of undergraduate studies.
- Applicant must be seeking admission or have been accepted as a full-time student into a two-year community college or four-year college or university.
- Applicant must have performed with distinction as student body member at her high school. The applicant’s involvement in extracurricular activities, course work, community service, contribution to tennis and promise of academic success will be considered.
- An applicant receiving a FULL scholarship in the sport of tennis from her respective university is NOT eligible for the JLTA scholarship award.
Awards
- Each recipient of a JLTA College Educational Scholarship is eligible to receive a total of $8000 over four years. The scholarship is renewable annually based upon the recipient’s enrollment with her collegiate institution and her maintenance of a “B” average or better.
- Each recipient is expected to enroll as a full-time undergraduate student as defined by her institution no later than the beginning of the fall semester/term after the notice of her selection for the scholarship. If circumstances arise whereby the awardee is unable to enroll or is unable to use the award in the beginning of the fall semester/term after the notice of her selection, the recipient must submit a written request for deferment to the JLTA Scholarship Selection Committee. Each request will be reviewed and determined on a case-by-case basis. Failure of a recipient to receive approval from the JLTA committee to change or delay use of the scholarship forfeits her right to the scholarship.
- The scholarship will be paid to the college or university at which the recipient is enrolled, and the funds will be disbursed at the beginning of each academic year. The recipient must provide JLTA with a copy of the most recent transcript indicating that the student has maintained a “B” average. Failure to provide transcripts before the beginning of the next academic year forfeits her right to the scholarship.

Required Materials
- Completed Application Form
- Fill out the application form online using the provided link.
- Include two personal statements as part of the form.
- Download the completed form from the "Submitted Documents" section.
- The form must be electronically signed by the applicant and a parent/guardian.
- Once completed, upload the personal statements via the "Submit Documents" link.
- Three Letters of Recommendation - These letters will be submitted via a personal link provided upon completion of the application. The letters must include:
- Academic Recommendation: A letter from a faculty member at the applicant's high school.
- Athletic Recommendation: A letter from the applicant’s high school tennis coach.
- Additional Recommendation: A typed letter from an individual of the applicant’s choice.
- A copy of the applicant’s high school transcript submitted from the high school’s guidance counselor (or other records custodian). Please include the applicant’s ACT/SAT examination results, either in the transcript or as a separate attachment. A complete transcript is required. Final semester courses must be listed with current grades at the time of submission.
ALL APPLICATION MATERIALS MUST BE RECEIVED BY END OF DAY (11:59 PM) April 1, 2025. The JLTA scholarship committee will send a confirmation to the applicant when each application component (application form, letters of recommendation, and transcript/ test scores) is received.
